Privacy Policy
ColorDB is designed as a browser-based color encyclopedia and tool site. This policy explains what information may be collected, how it may be used, and what choices visitors have when using the site.
Summary
- ColorDB does not require an account to use the site.
- Color tools are intended to run in the browser.
- Saved palettes or preferences, if enabled, may be stored locally on your device.
- ColorDB may use hosting/CDN services to deliver pages and assets.
- If analytics or ads are added, they may use cookies or similar technologies.
- If you contact ColorDB, the information you send may be used to respond to or review your message.
- ColorDB does not sell user accounts or user-submitted color projects because the site does not currently operate account-based cloud storage.
Information you provide directly
ColorDB may receive information if you choose to contact the site. Do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for the request.
- your email address
- your name, if you include it
- the content of your message
- screenshots or files you attach
- color values, page URLs, bug details, or suggestions you submit
Contact information may be used to respond to messages, review bug reports, investigate color-data corrections, improve content, or prevent spam and abuse.
Browser-only tool data
ColorDB’s core tools are intended to work in the browser without a custom backend. Tool inputs such as color values or palette settings are generally used to make the tool work in your browser.
- entered hex values
- generated palettes
- copied color values
- selected gradient settings
- contrast checker foreground/background colors
- shade and tint settings
- search and filter choices on the color database page
Local storage and saved preferences
ColorDB may use local browser storage such as localStorage or IndexedDB for local-only features.
- saved palettes
- recent colors
- preferred theme or display settings
- dismissed notices
- tool preferences
Local storage stays on your device and browser unless you clear it. ColorDB does not currently provide cloud-synced accounts for saved palettes or preferences.
Cookies and similar technologies
ColorDB may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies for functionality, preferences, analytics, security, advertising, or site performance.
- remembering local tool preferences
- saving browser-only palette data
- measuring general site usage
- preventing abuse
- supporting advertising if ads are added
- remembering consent choices where required
Analytics
If analytics are used, they may help understand how visitors use the site in aggregate, such as which pages or tools are most used, which browsers are common, or whether users encounter errors.
ColorDB may use privacy-conscious analytics or third-party analytics services in the future. If enabled, those services may process technical information such as device type, browser type, pages viewed, approximate location, referring page, and interaction events.
Advertising
ColorDB may display advertising to support the site. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads, measure ad performance, prevent fraud, and personalize or limit advertising depending on user settings and applicable law.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this site or other websites. If ads are enabled in the future, ColorDB should request consent for cookies, local storage, and personalized advertising where legally required.
Third-party services
ColorDB may rely on third-party services to operate, host, measure, or improve the site. Those services have their own privacy practices.
- hosting providers
- content delivery networks
- DNS providers
- analytics providers
- advertising providers
- email providers
- error monitoring tools
- open-source packages and public color datasets
Hosting and server/CDN logs
Even as a static site, hosting providers and content delivery networks may automatically process technical information to serve pages, cache assets, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical issues.
- IP address
- requested URL
- browser type
- device type
- referring URL
- date and time of request
- approximate location based on IP
- security or abuse-prevention signals
Open-source data and color datasets
ColorDB may use public or open color-name datasets as raw reference material. Those datasets generally describe color names and values, not personal information.
ColorDB adds organization, family grouping, related links, editorial notes, accessibility context, and tool integration on top of that raw reference data.
Children’s privacy
ColorDB is a general educational and reference site about color. It is not designed to collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided personal information through a contact message, please email contact@colordb.org so the information can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.
How information is used
- operating the site
- providing browser-based color tools
- improving pages, tools, and learning content
- responding to contact messages
- reviewing bug reports and corrections
- measuring site performance
- understanding aggregate usage
- preventing spam, abuse, or security issues
- complying with legal obligations
- supporting advertising if ads are enabled
How information is shared
ColorDB does not sell personal user account data because the site does not currently operate account-based user profiles or cloud-synced saved palettes.
Information may be shared with service providers that help host, analyze, secure, or operate the site, with advertising partners if ads are enabled, when required by law, to prevent abuse or fraud, or as part of a future transfer or reorganization of the site.
Data retention
Contact messages may be kept as long as reasonably needed to respond, review feedback, or maintain records.
Local browser storage remains on your device until deleted by you or your browser.
Hosting, analytics, advertising, and security logs may be retained according to the policies of the relevant third-party service.
User choices
- clearing cookies
- clearing local storage
- using private browsing mode
- disabling or limiting cookies
- using browser privacy controls
- adjusting ad personalization settings
- using consent choices if a consent banner is provided
Clearing cookies or local storage may remove saved palettes, preferences, consent choices, or other local-only settings.
Do Not Track
Some browsers provide a Do Not Track signal, but there is no consistent industry standard for how websites should respond. ColorDB may not respond differently to that signal unless required by law.
International visitors
ColorDB may be accessed from different countries. Privacy rights and requirements vary by location, and additional notices or consent choices may be provided where required by applicable law.
Changes to this policy
ColorDB may update this Privacy Policy as the site grows or as tools, analytics, advertising, hosting, or legal requirements change. When the policy changes, the Last updated date on this page should change as well.
